The House on Mango Street Essay
Before we wrote this essay we read the story of Esperanza, the main character in the novella The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Esperanza goes through many changes before becoming a woman capable of achieving her dreams. Once we finished the novella we were given a prompt to write an essay on. The prompt I chose was:
"In a multi-paragraph essay that includes quotes to support your opinion, discuss the three stages Esperanza goes through in the novella (1. insecure, 2. begins to gain confidence, 3. confident, young woman; capable of achieving her dreams)."Below is my essay, feel free to read it. The grade I got on this essay was a 94/100 which makes an A. I think that is a good grade. I worked really hard on this essay and I got a pretty good grade back. From the beginning Jill told us she grades her essays really hard so I was expecting to get much lower than an A. I'm very proud of the grade I got.

Finally, explain why Steinbeck possibly included these themes in Of Mice and Men."I got a 93/100 on this essay, which is an A. I'm happy with my grade. I worked really hard on my essay and definitely am proud of the grade I got. This was the second essay I had written in Jill's class so I was less nervous getting it back and more confident. Teen Issues Research Paper
For this paper we had to decide on a teen issues topic that interested us to study and learn the negative effects about. I chose to study the issue of teen marijuana abuse. Once we decided our topic we made a research binder containing all of our research and works cited. We needed 5 periodicals and 5 websites printed out and highlighted with solutions, effects, causes and explanations of the issue. Once we finished all our research we were given a prompt to write an essay. The prompt was:
"Using the research you have gathered over the past few weeks, write a 4-6 page research paper in which you explain an issue that affects teenagers across America. Make sure you include a definition and any background information necessary in understanding the issue. You must also include what causes the issue to occur, how the issue affects teens and any possible solutions that could potentially alleviate this issue altogether."
